teen robbery suspect on the run this morning after attacking two people near downtown san jose last night. police say a teenaged boy aroec approached a man at 19th street not far from san jose high school. they say he demanded money and stabbed the man. a few minutes later, the same suspect confronted another man three blocks away. the suspect hit that man in the head. both victims were treated for minor injuries. the suspect did manage to escape with some cash. >>> the woman accused of kicking a toddler in golden gate park is back in court this morning. i'll take it from here. sabrina bell was supposed to be arraigned last week but police say she could not appear because she was yelling and screaming in her holding cell. police say bell kicked a young girl in the chest on march 11th, knocking her to the pavement. the girl was not seriously injured. bell also allegedly threatened the young mother at the park. >>> the cyclist accused of hitting and killing a pedestrian in san francisco's castro district facing felony vehicular manslaughter charges today. prosecutors say he ran multip

week in the city in san jose, the ninth this year. reporting live, bob redell, nbc bay area news. >>> developing news out of afghanistan, at least five people dead including two u.s. service members in what is being called an insider attack. eight others were injured when a man dressed in an afghan police or military uniform attacked special forces sight in the wardak province. they tell nbc news the attack was so ser more people could die. this is the first time americans have been killed by enemy contact in afghanistan since january 2007. >>> just in daly city police arrested someone after a triple fatal crash over the weekend. dennis macedo in the jail in redwood city. he'll be charged with three counts of homicide and one hit-and-run. friday night macedo's car slammed into a car on 101. three people died in that crash. a fourth was flown to the hospital where she's still being treated this morning. macedo could be in court later today. >>> next a bizarre story out of san francisco. investigators still trying to figure out how a man become trapped and died inside of an elevato

near san jose avenue. the building houses a number of businesses on the ground floor and apartments above. firefighters have pulled out of the building fearing it could collapse. no injuries have been reported. and in san jose, more than 20 people have been displaced after a fire at an apartment building overnight on landes avenue near 680 and montague. firefighters say they got a report of smoke in a kitchen area. the building was evacuated and the scene was cleared around 1:00 a.m. >>> monterey highway has reopened in south san jose after a fatal car accident early this morning. police say about 2:00 a.m., the driver of a red two-door ford, can you see it completely crushed, was speeding south on monterey when he lost control, clipped two trees and sheared a light pole. paramedics pronounced him dead on the scene. a sergeant we spoke with said there are no obvious signs of drinking and driving but cannot rule it out completely until rultsz come back from a test. portions were shut down for a good portion of the morning commute. >> goodness gracious, thank you so much. breaking new

sex offender. now, the lady who lives on southbrook drive in south san jose tells me she awoke to find him standing over her in bed. she chased him out of the house, told him to keep running because she was calling the police. i said, wow, that's pretty gutsy. she tells me she always had that instinct in her. officers were able to set up a perimeter within 90 seconds since coincidentally they were already patrolling the area for other quality of life crimes in that neighborhood. she was able to give them a very good description. she did fall asleep with the tv on. campo was found within minutes. >> the fact that they were able to respond in less than two minutes, lock the area down, he probably came out and tried to pretend that he was just a nearby resident because he figured there was so many officers in the area that he wasn't going to be able to avoid detection very long. so he probably rolled the dice and tried to trick us into thinking he was somebody who lived in the area. >> reporter: campo was arrested, as i mentioned. he was wearing an ankle monitoring bracelet as requir

afternoon. the chase ends up in a south san jose neighborhood where police boxed his car in. that's when the man got out of the car and he ran. officers, they thought he was armed. they opened fire ultimately killing that man. now, despite speeds of up to 100 miles per hour no officers or bystanders were hurt. >>> a shooting just one of five deadly officer-involved shootings in the bay area taking place in just 72 hours. there was one in sonoma county thursday night as well as shootings? san francisco, union city and hayward. in hayward police say the suspect rammed his car right into a police cruiser during a traffic stop. that happened yesterday morning. the officer opened fire hitting a passenger. the driver sped off, then crashed nearby. investigators at that hour not sure if the crash contributed to the passenger's death. the driver, he was arrested and all five of these shootings right now are subject to internal reviews and all five of the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave. >>> the outpouring of support for santa cruz continues to grow this morning after t

, one man is dead after san jose police say he tried to run over an officer with his car. it happened in an unincorporated area of san jose just before 7:00 last night, three san jose police officers tried to pull over a stolen car. the driver reportedly refused to stop and instead rammed the back of an unmarked police car. when the officer had gotten out of his car, police say the suspect tried to run him over. that's when the officer fired that deadly shot. >> just heard two quick shots, pop, pop. then that's when all the fire department and all the rest of the cops started showing up. >> the suspect died at the hospital. police say another person was in the stolen car and is being questioned as a witness. no officers were hurt. >> new detail this morning about a raceway crash that killed the 14-year-old boy from santa rosa this weekend. marcus johnson died when his 17-year-old cousin chase lost control of a sprint car and crashed right into the pit area at the raceway. the johnson family now said chase tells him the steering wheel in his car came loose as he entered a turn. that ul
